A great day to visit the Enid Zoo!
Wow! It's March 1 and the temperature should reach over 80 degrees! I've got my shorts on and I'm ready to go out and enjoy the weather. Today would be the perfect day to take the kids to the Enid zoo. The Enid zoo?Yep, I remember spending a day or two at the Enid zoo when I was a youth. The zoo was located on east Garriott right where the Humphrey Heritage Village is today. The thing that sticks out in my mind the most about the zoo was the monkey pit located in the middle. I remember what seemed like dozens of little monkeys jumping, screaming and picking things off of each other. I can still see the dozens of funny red butts and envision throwing peanuts into the pit. (I don't think we were supposed to feed them)
I really don't remember any other animals at the zoo. I think there might have been a lion at one time. Anyway, if Enid did still had a zoo it would be a great day to visit.
If you remember the zoo and what animals were there please let us know. Also send in any pictures if you have any, we'd love to see them.

I REMEMBER THE ZOO VERY WELL. I IN FACT HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR INFO ON IT.
THEY HAD BEARS, AND AN AVIARY CAGE ALSO.
THE MUSEUMS VOLUNTEER TOLD ME RECENTLY THAT THE ZOO WAS IN AFFILIATION WITH THE TULSA ZOO, BUT A BOOK ABOUT ENID TALKS OF GETTING ANIMALS (DEER AND MONKEYS) FROM TEXAS BACK IN THE 30'S.
Thanks Paula. Let us know if you find any new info.
The only animals I for sure remember were the monkeys and a Minah bird. The bird was right at the entrance of the zoo,I talked to it every time I was there.I remember feeding the monkeys some of those candies called hot tomalies and watching them run for the water hole one time. That was a mean thing to do but it was sure funny at the time.
