If you've been away from Enid for a while you might be confused by a few of our newest restaurants. Garfield Grill, formerly Next Door, has left and been replaced by a fancy new Godfather's Pizza. The old Godfather's spot in Sunset Plaza will soon be a new fine dining establishment.


The old Amarillo Grill, formerly Cotton Patch, has been replaced by a hoppin new Rib Crib BBQ joint. Are you still with me? The old Tully's, formerly Sneakers, has closed it's doors and Carl's Jr. on Garriott, formerly Hardees, is now a Chinese restaurant. I hope you got all of that.

Enid, Oklahoma now has it's own Peace Pole! What is a Peace Pole? A Peace Pole is a hand-crafted monument that displays the message and prayer May Peace Prevail on Earth on each of its four or six sides, usually in different languages. There are more than 200,000 Peace Poles in 180 countries all over the world dedicated as monuments to peace. They serve as constant reminders for us to visualize and pray for world peace.

The more than 200,000 Peace Poles around the world are on all continents, in every country you can think of. They are in simple places, such as churches and gardens, and extraordinary ones, such as at the Pyramids of El Giza, Egypt or the Magnetic North Pole in Canada.

Enid's Peace Pole is located on the corner of West Maple and North Jefferson in front of Cimarron Montessori School. The school dedicated the pole on December 21, 2005.

Holiday Inn Express has opened its doors to Enid citizens and visitors. The new hotel is located on West Garriott Road between Western Sizzlin and Curttright Honda.

Enid's Holiday Inn Express has 78 rooms with 17 suites. All have refrigerators and a microwave. Four suites will have Jacuzzis. The hotel also features a swimming pool inside with concrete floors, tile walls and a bath and shower.

The lobby is typical size, but the breakfast area features 10 tables with a large lounge and hot breakfast and coffee center.

The Enid hotel is one of the Stay Smart group with 1,500 properties worldwide. It is a mid-priced hotel for value-oriented travelers who expect dependable service and informal hospitality. Room rates average between $60 and $90 per night and vary according to market and season.

Have you noticed that shiny new building constructed in the parking lot of Westgate Shopping Center? Rumors abound that it might one day become a Starbucks Coffee. What are the best rumors you've heard as to why it sits empty?

He may be a little bit country or a little bit rock and roll. Either way he's coming to Enid, Oklahoma to perform his live Christmas show. The 69 year old entertainer has been traveling the country, performing in big cities and small towns. Enid will be one of his stops.

Glen Campbell will present his Christmas concert Dec. 17 at Chisholm Trail Expo Center. He will be performing his top hits as well as many of your favorite Christmas tunes.

"Let the good times roll!" That is the motto of Nawlins Express, Oakwood Malls newest addition to the food court. If you're out shopping stop by and enjoy some good old cajun cooking.

Indian Hills shopping center is now home to Enid's newest sushi grill. Sakura has opened up shop and is serving Japanese cuisine. We will have more details and a restaurant review as soon as possible.

Homeland Grocery has removed the signs and is clearing the building. The chain grocery store closed its doors this month and joins The Boys Market as the latest grocery stores to shut down Enid operations.

Have you seen the huge ice cream cone looming over the road on the corner of Garriott and Monroe, caticorner from Bass Hospital? It is the Freddy's Frozen Custard business that opened today. I snuck the family in on opening day and even got to meet Freddy. He was there to greet all of his new customers. I will have a restaurant review about our lunch coming to the restaurant section ASAP.

Not sure what frozen custard is? It's pretty much super-rich gourmet ice cream and tastes great! It is made fresh several times a day and has a very smooth texture.

And don't be fooled by the name. Freddy's is not all about frozen custard. They also serve steakburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, chicken strips, chili, onion rings, french fries and assorted drinks. They also have a kids menu!!

Freddy's is based in Wichita, Kansas and is in the middle of expanding and opening several new franchises across the country.
